Water is an integral part of life, but considering that up to 80% of some products are water, we think using plain water is a waste of space! Instead, we like to use Aloe Vera Leaf Juice for it's skin soothing qualities, fruit, vegetable and floral hydrosols for their skin nourishing and beneficial nutrients, along with Coconut Milk and Almond Milk for extra omega fatty acids and vitamins.
Here's a breakdown of these nutritious ingredients and their benefits to your skin!
Coconut Milk: Your skin deserves to be indulged in a sweet treat every now and then and coconut milk can do the trick. Coconut milk will quench thirsty skin while leaving behind a sweet, but not overpowering scent. The milk is derived by processing coconut meal after the coconut is cracked open. The coconut meal is boiled in water and the milk strained through a cheesecloth. The milk is then left to sit and cool for approximately one hour and forms to a thick, creamy consistency and with a high content of fatty acids and natural moisturizing benefits, it's one of our favorite replacements for plain water!
Aloe Vera Leaf Juice is a lightly hydrating and soothing gel from the Aloe Vera plant. It's best known for it's helping reducing the heat and pain of sunburns. Which is precisely why it's such an invaluable ingredient in helping to lessen skin irritations, burns, and helps to improve wound healing, plus it's an awesome hydrator! It's also shown to protect the skin agains UV damage with aloin (an element found naturally in Aloe). The Aloe Plant is considered a super star when it comes to vitamin content including vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B12, C, E, Choline and Folic Acid. These vitamins are great for protecting the skin from free radicals, dangerous compounds that cause signs of premature aging due to damaging effects on the DNA and other cell structures. The herb also contains enzymes, which are the life-principle in every live. These organic molecules rejuvenate aged tissues and promote healthy skin.
Hydrosols are among the gentlest and safest aromatics for use in caring for your complexion. Sometimes essential oils are contradicted or can cause skin sensitivity so the waters from fruits, veggies, flowers and other plants offer a great alternative to essential oils, absolutes or other means to make a product smell divine. We use them in toners, facial creams, body creams, refreshing “spritzers” during the day to revive your make-up (or your spirits), soothing and calming anti-inflammatories to ease the redness of rosacea or sunburn, or gentle anti-bacterials to help calm troubled skin and acne.
